12 Steps to Positivity

 Positivity is not only an excellent expression but a life style. Positivity is the quality of being positive in life. Being positive means being optimistic about life. When everything goes around good in life, one is most likely to stay positive. But the challenge arises when one experiences bad situations in life. One is likely to feel anxious and lose one's optimism. The mantra here to stay positive is to reassure oneself again and again that the bad situation too shall pass. As P. B. Shelley writes in his famous poem (Ode to the west wind) - If Winter Comes, Can Spring Be Far Behind?

In this article I am going to share with you 12 tips for positivity.

1. Get yourself a time table :

I cannot stress enough the importance of following a time table or routine. A routine starts you off on the right foot. When you chalk out time for everything on paper, you will find time for everything , e.g.

Meditation, Exercise, Studying, Pleasure Reading, Writing, Helping your mother in household work, Eating and Sleeping;

only you have to stick to the time table. A time table helps us to treat life nicely. It prevents us from being sluggish and treating life as an emergency.

2.  Read books for positivity :

Books impact our lives a lot. You may ask how. Books can play a pivotal role in shaping and developing our personality. We come across various characters in a book. We always like some characters more than other characters. And some characters we like the best. Because these characters teach us to always hold our heads high when we know that we are doing the right thing and to never lose good humour. They also teach us that bad situations should not be able to get us down and encourage us to rise above situations. Books are great infuencers and instill positivity into us.

3. Don't indulge in gossiping.

In normal course of life, we share our day's misfortunes and events with our family and friends. Suppose you had a bad day at work. Let's say your boss scolded you really bad for something that wasn't really your fault. Now back at home, you are sharing your day's adventure with a friend but you get carried away with your sentiments and start saying filthy things about your boss.

Remember fair criticism and gossiping are two different things.

Talking too much and thinking too much about a bad incident or a mean person will fill you with malice and that will harm you the most for you won't be able to think clearly and do things that will be fruitful to you.
Similarly keep such people at an arms length whose most cherished business is to discuss peoples lives.

4. Don't be prickly. All criticisms are not bad:

Criticisms give us an opportunity to reflect on the mistakes we have made or the shortcomings in our work. After that we can decide if improvement is needed and how improvement is to be made. Every criticism is not malafide. They give us an opportunity for self correction and becoming our better version.

So don't be prickly. For criticisms can be genuine.

5. Set a boundary for those who are insulting to you :

Setting boundaries for people who are unkind and mean to you is very necessary , otherwise you will be forced to live in a toxic environment.

In different walks of life, we come across various kinds of people. And we can not always choose the people whom we get to work with or we get acquainted with. Some people are just there in our life.
The worst scenario is when such people are our relatives. What do we do when these people say hurtful things to us? For example, one of my friend's uncles used to tell her everytime he met her how she was not putting enough efforts to get a decent job while in reality she even worked odd jobs to support her family and didn't let go any respectable opportunity to earn money.
To stop such humility the easiest and most effective way is to tell them politely but clearly that they are wrong about you are putting every possible effort to better your conditions. And all they are saying is doing only one thing and that is - hurting you.

6. Journalling :

Some people find it hard not to brood over unpleasant incidents. They just can't let go bad feelings and they feel sad about an incident for a long - long time. If such is the case with you, you should give a try to journalling. Journalling helps to look at an event closely, think about it logically and come to a conclusion. And when you come to a conclusion then you can decide whether to hold on to your feeling or let it go. Most times journalling helps to get over things calmly.

7. Keep work life and home life separate :

People usually feel exhausted after the day's work. Often times they have to deal with toxic people at work. The problem aggravates when the boss is moody or when the seniors are bossing around. These things make people frustrated. This affects their home as well as the family now has to put up with their mood. The best way to overcome this situation is keeping your work life and home life separate. It is a mantra for happy life .It is time tested and not at all overemphasized.

8. Spend time with loved ones - It's so fulfilling :

Family is so important. They are the people who understands us most or they at least try to understand us to the best of their abilities. They are always happy in our happiness. They love us most - straight from their hearts. So whatever you choose to do with your life, don't forget to include them. Daily conversations with family boosts confidence . Even if you are experiencing the thins in life, share with your family. You will feel relieved and with their experience they will be able to give you good advice.

9. Talk to people who love you and are positive too :

It is necessary to surround yourself with people with a positive attitude towards life. And equally important is to maintain distance from people who have a pessimistic outlook of life. Because some people love to focus on problems rather than on solutions. And it doesn't matter however patient you are with them and whatever you say to console them they won't even try to look for solutions for they are indefatigable sufferers.

10. Eat healthy food, wear good clothes, comb your hair - self care ways:

You feel positive when you give yourself time. Some of the ways by which you can take care of yourself is -
Taking a shower everyday ;

Combing your hair everyday;

Wearing good clothes (I mean washed and ironed clothes) ;

Eating your meals at regular time ;

Getting adequate sleep.

11. Be Kind :

Kindness begets kindness. It is not just a saying. What you send out to the universe, the universe will send you back. By saying this, I don't mean that if you are kind to, let's say a friend, that friend will definitely be kind to you. What I want to say is that if you are kind to people, you will have kind people to help you and support you whenever you need help and support. And difficult times will pass easily and quickly.

12. Pray to God :

Prayer is a bridge between man and God. Taking out a dedicated time from the day's work for making prayers to God fills us with optimism and positivity. It also gives us a feeling of security that everything is gonna be alright and everything will stay alright. Prayers need not be long. Just take out a little time everyday for praying. Short, sincere prayers will please almighty God.
