How to speak English - The Top Six Tips

Do you often find yourself probing into how can you start to speak
English well? Do you find yourself asking ' I understand English well and
can also write good English, but why do I lack the confidence to speak English? Why is it that everytime I try to speak in English, I forget the words and I fumble so much that no one understands anything and all I can hear is people giggling and passing hurtful comments.
Alright guys! I have been there and I have been there for the longest of times. But now I am not in that position anymore. Today in this article I am going to tell you the six techniques that I have used to get myself out of that abominable situation.

1. STOP  CARING  ABOUT  PEOPLE :

If I have to give percentage share to the various things that hold you back from starting your spoken English journey, I will give 99 percent to your fear of people laughing at you and making fun of you when you make mistakes while speaking English.
This factor has held me back for long  from participating in any conversation in English
But there is a way to fight this fear.
Just ask yourself one question -'would I laugh at a person who is trying to speak in my mother tongue which is not his native language? ' If your answer is no, then you are a rational person and you need not care about people who you think will laugh at you when you make mistakes in a language which is not your native language. Because these are probably the people who would laugh at a person who limps because he lost a limb in an accident. So as they say -haters gonna hate. You should not give them any attention and rather focus on self improvement.

2. READING:

The second difficulty you will come across is not finding correct words for what you want to say.
See while speaking in any language we do not need to know the entire vocabulary of that language. But still we need to know the right words in order to describe things properly. So how can we learn the words to describe daily life situations?  For this purpose, I rely on fiction books. Fiction books contain a lot of daily life situations, adjectives describing people, words describing feelings and a lot of expressions people use in their everyday lives.
So it is a very good idea to get ourselves into the habit of reading a little everyday as we are most likely to remember words when we read them in a context .

3. LISTENING:

Alongside reading, you should also listen to English everyday.
Now-a-days who doesn't know about audio books? One can listen to as many audiobooks as possible either for free or for a very nominal fee.
Listening helps us with our pronunciation and it also helps in grasping the intonation in English pronunciation. So do listen to audiobooks and podcasts in English.

4. WRITING:

The next step is writing a little in English regularly. You can write just two-three pages everyday about a typical day in your life; about life in general;about your feelings and opinions regarding something you are reading currently; about anything and everything that captures your attention.
Writing helps in calling to mind the words that we read and this way we stand less chances of forgetting what we read and want to retain.
Also, when we write regularly, we tend to better organise our thoughts and this way we become more articulate.

5. RECORDING:

The fifth step is listening to yourself speak in English. And how can you do this? You can do this by going to the record section of your cellphone and record yourself read or say something in English. This way you will be able to know if there is any fault in your pronunciation or intonation and accordingly you can make correction to them.

6. PRACTICING IN FRONT OF A MIRROR :

After following the above mentioned steps if you are still lacking in confidence, then there is an ultimate step which can cure this lack of confidence completely. Just go in front of the mirror and say something about yourself or about any other topic that you find interesting, it will not only help in speaking English but also improve public speaking.

So these are the six time -tested techniques that helped me in my spoken English journey. One thing you need to keep in mind is that you have to be consistent with these techniques, otherwise you won't see your desired results. And if you are employing these techniques regularly, then do let me know how do you feel about yourself now and how much improvement have you made.
